TRADITIONS

MORE THAN JUST EVENTS
At Kids Connection, our traditions are more than just events—they’re the moments that bring joy to the KC experience. These celebrations and shared experiences are where connection begins, and from that connection, all learning stems. When students feel a sense of belonging—when they laugh at rallies, cheer with their classmates, and take part in beloved annual traditions—they become more deeply connected to school. That joy, that spirit of community, fuels their curiosity, confidence, and love of learning.

Rallies & School Spirit
Rallies are a huge part of what makes our school feel alive. Whether we’re kicking off the year with our School Spirit Rally—where students wear red and blue and come together as one united community—or gathering for our annual Class Color Rally, school spirit is always on display. Each class is assigned a color they wear throughout the year on special free dress days, and the class color rally is a fun-filled day of games, cheering, and team pride. We also host a Winter Rally to bring extra warmth and joy during the colder months. These moments build a sense of unity, boost student confidence, and remind everyone that school is a place to be celebrated.

Cultural Celebrations
We believe in celebrating what makes us unique—and in helping students learn about others, too. Cultural celebrations at Kids Connection embrace the rich diversity of our community while building awareness, empathy, and appreciation.
From our huge Lunar New Year festival to vibrant campus-wide celebrations of Diwali and Holi, we go all in. Special visitors, performances, classroom projects, and presentations during heritage months deepen the experience, and we love when students and families share their own traditions with the class or entire school. These events happen everywhere—from Morning Gatherings to classrooms to the playground—ensuring students see culture not just as a subject, but as a living, shared experience.

Meet Clever the Coyote
Clever the Coyote is more than a mascot—he’s a KC legend! Named in 2022 by one our Kindergarten classes after a spirited naming competition, Clever now makes appearances at special events and rallies to cheer students on and boost school pride. His birthday? We celebrate it each year on National Coyote Day in March, of course! He’s a favorite among students and always brings a big smile when he shows up on campus.

PTC-Led Events
Our Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC) plays a vital role in bringing joy and connection to the KC community. Throughout the year, the PTC leads a variety of events that invite families into the heart of our school. The biggest event of the year? The Halloween Carnival! It’s a full day devoted to fun, community-building, and school spirit. Students dress up for a costume parade, enjoy carnival games, and are wowed by special visitors—from magicians and fortune tellers to science performers and more. Parents love being part of the action, and it’s a wonderful reminder that at Kids Connection, family involvement is a key part of what makes our school special.

Graduation Traditions
As students approach the end of their elementary journey, we honor their growth and experiences with meaningful traditions that create lasting memories.
-
Time Capsule: Each 5th-grade class creates a time capsule filled with letters, photos, and mementos to capture their time at Kids Connection. It is buried in our Alumni Garden in a special morning shared by our graduating 5th graders.
-
Graduation Ceremony: Our graduation is a joyful, heartfelt celebration where every student is recognized for their journey, growth, and accomplishments.
-
The Reunion—7 Years Later: One of our most cherished traditions, we invite our alumni back seven years later—just before their high school graduation—to reconnect, open their time capsules, and reflect on where it all began. We get to learn about their plans and they can reconnect to each other and to KC. It is always so special to see these young adults play like children at 4 square or hide and go seek throughout their elementary school! It’s a powerful reminder of the lifelong connections forged at KC.
